What is it about?
When simulating a collection of atoms (or a galaxy of stars), it is usually necessary to compute the electrostatic (or gravitational) forces of one atom on another. This publication presents a fast method for doing the computation that combines all the best features of existing methods.

Why is it important?
Fast methods for computing forces necessarily require approximation. The use of B-splines provides higher accuracy for the same computational effort.
