What is it about?

Non linear piezo effects can be described either as a tensor of nth order, or by incorporating the strain dependence in the linear coefficients. Here we followed the latter to show that under often incurred experimental conditions one could interprete the field as having the opposite sign to the one predicted by the classic theory.

Why is it important?

This work set a flurry of discussions. Many papers followed and an established and accepted protocol has now been agreed to use the tensor formalism.

Perspectives

I am sentimentally attached to this paper, because it was an early attempt to provide a framework for non linear piezo effects. It was seminal
