What is it about?

Building 3D models may not seem like a problem, but for MSME owners, it's a major one. Lack of resources, limited funding, the need for immediate availability due to short product lifecycles, and "lightweight" and high-performance 3D models that depict products with high accuracy and detail make providing 3D models for their online sales channels seem impossible. In this paper, we show a way to overcome these problems so that MSMEs can utilize them easily and simply, through the effective and efficient use of consumer 3D scanners combined with several supporting applications and a series of post-processing processes.

Why is it important?

We have developed a method that minimizes site asset preparation time and other challenges that complicate the preparation of 3D models for MSMEs, particularly those producing handicrafts. This also supports MSME independence in their daily operations and helps them recover from the setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic several years ago.

Perspectives

Our research has made me more aware of the various challenges facing the MSME sector, especially how to survive after collapsing several years ago due to the pandemic. Leveraging digital technology for online marketing and sales may seem like an easy shortcut, but it turns out that it's not that simple for MSMEs. Hopefully, this small, modest contribution will be beneficial to them.
