What is it about?
This paper presents the petiole of the miriti palm, a foam-like material, applied in the core of small wind turbine blades. This is really light, so a wind turbine with blades made of it start s to generate power faster.

Why is it important?
It is important becaue the petiole of the miriti palm is an alternative material as core of small blades and this material may have a major role in increasing sustainability of wind energy industry.
Perspectives
Miriti is easy to work and has a very low density. It comes from the the leaves of a palm tree, which is very common and abundante the Brazilian Amazon Region. There are handcraft communities who work with this material, and other than the craftwork they make, the possibility of applying the petiole of miriti palm in wind turbine blades would increase the value of such material and the Amazon Region in terms of sustainability.
