What is it about?
Acoustic wave is regarded as the only efficient candidate for long-range underwater communication, and orbital angular momentum (OAM)-based wireless communication technique significantly improves the channel capacity. Therefore, we showcase a strategy to selectively filter a specific OAM channel from multiple superimposed vortices by simply twisting a passive structure which is called metasurface.

Why is it important?
The reconfigurable OAM filter reported in our work does not require any further data analysis technique where people could directly manipulate the OAM channel just like what people did with polarizers in optical communications. In addition, this technique shows the potential in free-space underwater scenarios with unlimited channel numbers.
