What is it about?
Local engineering of defects and their correction with photoluminescence (PL) in Al-doped ZnO (AZO)/TiO2 heterostructure has attracted lot of attention for fundamental understanding as well as for wide optoelectronic applications. Here we report the temperature-dependent PL of AZO/TiO2 heterostructure that shows a gradual modulation of broad emission near blue-violet region when irradiated by 50 keV Ar+-ions.

Why is it important?
Our findings give clear information about the nature of defects involved in controlling the blue PL through the evolution of stoichiometry and surface morphology of the heterostructures.
