What is it about?
Acoustic waves propagating on the surface of the piezoelectric crystal provide a wide range of electromechanical transducer applications. This paper presents a comparative study of piezoelectric acoustic wave characteristics of High electromechanical coupling YX-PIN-PMN-PT single crystal substrate with and without SiO2 overlay.

Why is it important?
Recent advances in mobile communication technologies call for increasingly expanding their bandwidth and operation frequency range as well as low insertion loss. Our findings show that compared to SH-type SAW in the conventional structure, the one with SiO2 overlay offers the spurious-free SH-type PBAW with a fairly large coupling factor of 30% and a significantly improved quality factor (~3500) simultaneously, which allows for the development of high-performance RF filters with low loss and broad bandwidth.
