What is it about?

In this work general theoretical expressions for signals in photothermal experiments in front and transmission configurations are provided. A diagram based methodology is described for this goal. Effective thermal diffusivity values for stacked materials can be obtained carrying out the corresponding photothermal experiments in the modulation frequency domain.

Why is it important?

The analytical expressions are useful for retrieve thermal diffusivities for stacked samples if these consist of alternating layers of two different materials. Moreover it ¡is also possible to obtain thermal impedance between layers in this case.

Perspectives

The analytical expressions described in this work could be very useful for measuring thermal properties for materials of technological relevance as heterostructures or superlattices, among others.
