What is it about?

We propose a method to quickly or accurately determine the resonance frequency of a plasma confined microparticle. With the resonance frequency, one can find the particle charge, which is very important when using the particle as a probe to analyze the illusive plasma edge.

Why is it important?

With this method, the experimenter has the option to get results quickly or increase the accuracy by repeating the experiment as long as they want. Previous methods were only possible by a sufficient resolution in the frequency domain (accurate but long duration) or dropping particles (quick but single shot, thus inaccurate).

Perspectives

A simple alteration about driving the plasma is all an experimenter needs to be able to use this method, as long as they poses a high speed camera with proper optics, which most dusty plasma experimenters have.
