What is it about?
Cold chemical reactions between an ion and a polar molecule play important roles in interstellar chemistry because their reactions have high exothermicity and are very fast. However, they have not been studied sufficiently in laboratories. We have developed a new experimental method to study the reactions and demonstrated the reaction rate measurements between CH3CN and Ne ion.

Why is it important?
Our new method can reveal the the temperature dependence of gas-phase cold ion-polar molecule reactions which have not been studied experimentally.
