What is it about?

We know what we, as academics, think CPTED is and we know how effective we consider it to be. But what do burglars think? This paper explores the perceptions of a sample of 22 incarcerated burglars, asking them to review of series of images of residential housing and to comment on the features that attract and deter them.

Why is it important?

CPTED has been defined and redefined by academics, practitioners and policy-makers, but what voice has been given to the burglar?

Perspectives

This publication offers a review of CPTED from the perspective of the burglar. It is aimed at those working within the built environment from design through to implementation and management.
