Boerhaave Syndrom can be treated with endoscopic vacuum therapy without operation solely with endoscopic vacuum therapy.

Why is it important?

First description of the method to close a Boerhaave perforation. Treatment period was only 8 days, no operation required, no thoraic drainage, solely closure and drainage with endoscopic vacuum therapy.

Perspectives

This was one of our very first experience with vacuum therapy in esophagus. The very rapid closure emphasized the potential of this new treatment option thus we went on to developt the therapy.
