What is it about?

The foremost mechanism is tribocharging which arises from particle-particle and particle-wall contacts. Although its behaviour is erratic and not easy to predict, it is still desirable to characterise the likely tendency of tribocharging prior to full scale manufacturing. By taking into account the problems for industry (especially the pharmaceutical industry), it is desirable to characterise particulate materials in terms of their electrical characteristics to understand the underlying phenomenon of tribocharging so that corrective action can be taken prior to full scale manufacture..

Why is it important?

When evaluation of electrostatic charge is important in industrial handling process then understanding of charge distribution can help to understand tribocharging role. The instrument has been used in this study have potential to provide good understanding.

Perspectives

In summary this work has contributed a novel approach to measure both charge polarity and charge distribution in a population of solid particulates contributing both distinct method and distinct advantages
