What is it about?

In this work, a statistical approach that models the effect of big particles such as sandgrains amid an Underwater Wireless Optical Link is presented.

Why is it important?

The effect of this kind of particles has not been studied yet in Underwater Wireless Optical Communications. The results of this work demonstrate that depending on the size and distribution of particles, there is an optimal emitter size that maximises signal-to-noise ratio and hence, data throughput.

Perspectives

The results of this paper are of great importance in UWOC, concretely in shallow water links.
