What is it about?

The paper analyses the effect of replacing existing synchronous generators equipped with power system stabilizers by DFIG based wind farms on the damping of power system oscillations in a multi-machine power system. A power system stabiliser was designed to enhance the capability of DFIG to damp power systems oscillations.

Why is it important?

with the rapid increment of wind power penetration, DFIG wind turbines can affect the overall damping performance when replacing synchronous machines which are equipped with power system stabilizers. Therefore, damping contribution of installed wind turbines is of significant important and this can be achieved by introducing an auxiliary loop into the DFIG controller.
