What is it about?

Flux based technique not only can detect the faulty condition, but also can identify the faulty phase and faulty region on that phase. Since the magnetic flux is the main state variable in electrical machines, it can sense any abnormal conditions, so the flux based algorithms are very sensitive and accurate. Moreover, such algorithms are robust in the face of irrelative phenomena.
