What is it about?
This paper provides a closed-form solution to estimate surgcial tool-tip tracking error distribution. The error distribution is calculated in coordinate reference frame while pivot calibration uncertainty is considered.

Why is it important?
Knowing surgcial tool-tip tracking error distribution is important for decision making (for example, avoiding critical structures) during surgery. This paper provides a novel closed-form to estimate tool-tip tracking error while pivot calibration uncertainty is considered.
Perspectives
In this paper, the statistical model of tool-tip tracking error is formulated using regsitration theory. Not only magnitudes(root-mean-square) but also shape (covariance matrice)of tool-tip tracking error are well modelled.
