What is it about?

The scope of this study focuses on young adults. This study looks at challenges, strategies, support, and internalized perspectives in relation to school, extracurricular/work, and home life, along with social determinants of health of TBI in this age group all at once, whereas past studies look at these components separately.

Why is it important?

This study addresses gaps in health, educational, and social research that limit the appropriate identification of communication difficulties and the resulting sociological impacts on young adults with TBI. More research is needed to understand the disparities in the educational, extracurricular, and home participation of young adults with traumatic brain injuries. Qualitative interviews alongside quantitative data can afford a deeper, person-centered understanding of inequities in the lived experiences of young adults with TBI.
