What is it about?
Balance is the ability to control the body’s position and remain stable while standing or moving. It is maintained through the coordinated function of the eyes, the balance organs in the inner ear, and sensory information from the muscles and joints. In this study, the effect of different anxiety levels on balance was evaluated in adults without dizziness or balance problems. To interpret the results more accurately, participants were screened for factors that could affect balance, including caffeine consumption, alcohol use, smoking status, sleep duration before testing, and medical conditions such as hearing loss, migraine, previous head trauma, vertigo, or anemia. Individuals who did not meet the study criteria were excluded. The findings suggest that some balance-related parameters may be affected by anxiety, even in individuals without balance complaints.

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems worldwide and can affect daily life, body awareness, and movement behaviors. Therefore, understanding the relationship between anxiety and balance is clinically important. This study suggests that balance assessments should consider not only physical and sensory systems, but also psychological status.
