What is it about?
This study examined the effect of using the Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) on training empathy and clinical skills in SLP students working in dementia care. The study had two parts. The first part included running VDT in a standardized way to increase student understanding and empathy for living with dementia. The second part included environmental modifications and compensatory strategies to support the successful completion of tasks within VDT. This simulation appears to be a viable way to increase SLP students' empathy and clinical skills in working with people with dementia.
