What is it about?
Study abroad programs are a creative way to introduce cultural and linguistic awareness in emerging speech-language pathologists. We have developed an exchange study abroad program between Southern Iliinois University Carbondale and University of Sao Paulo that is cost effective for the students, encourages collaboration between faculty members, and improves quality of education at the program and university level.

Why is it important?
We describe the layout of the program so that it is financially viable for our student population, and also show how students from each university benefit form the cross country experience.
Perspectives
I thoroughly enjoyed setting up this study abroad program, traveling to Brazil, and forming lasting research collaborations. The study abroad program is open to all speech language pathology and audiology students in US universities. Please contact me for creating a multicultural experience for your students. Lastly I hope this article helps you set up your own study abroad program.
