What is it about?

Listening fatigue is defined as a type of mental fatigue that greatly affects people's quality of life, especially in situations that create listening problems, such as the presence of hearing loss. The purpose of this study is to investigate the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the 40-item Vanderbilt Fatigue Scale for Adults.

Why is it important?

This study demonstrated that the Turkish version of the Vanderbilt Fatigue Scale for Adults is a reliable and valid tool for assessing listening fatigue in adults. We also believe that this scale will provide unique information for researchers and clinicians seeking to improve the quality of life of adults with hearing loss by assessing adults' fatigue experiences in a way that general fatigue scales cannot.

Perspectives

The Turkish version of the Vanderbilt Fatigue Scale for Adults may also be useful for examining the listening-related fatigue of individuals with listening difficulties other than hearing loss, such as those with tinnitus, auditory processing disorders, learning disabilities, and second language speakers. A more comprehensive understanding of the negative effects of listening-related fatigue on these populations may help in the customization of intervention strategies aimed at reducing the negative effects of listening-related fatigue and enhancing their quality of life.
