What is it about?

Researchers asked parents about how they helped their child get an AAC system. They talked about how the device was paid for, who helped them pick a device, what struggles they faced while getting used to the device, and who helped them the most with the device. We summarize 22 parents experiences and offer suggestions to practitioners.

Parents are important team members, and speech pathologists, as well as special education teachers, must take into consideration their perspectives when choosing and implementing communication systems for their children.
