What is it about?
This review looks at the ability of the admissions materials/process to predict student success with patient interactions and development of skills needed to diagnose/treat patient disorders. It also discusses the prediction of academic success. The review found that there is limited research in the area of predicting clinical skills. In addition, there is limited consistency in the way students are assessed for admission, and limited consistency in assessment of clinical skills when they are in programs. In addition, there is not a consistent definition of clinical skills used across programs.

Health science programs struggle to predict academic and clinical success in students. This information reviews what we know now and offers suggestions for stronger admission practices and assessment of student success once admitted.
