What is it about?

Fitness instructors make up a large group of occupational voice users susceptible to voice disorders and are rarely provided the vocal training they need aimed to prevent voice disorders and improve overall voice use during instruction. This study demonstrates the imperative need to educate and empower fitness professionals to take adequate care of their voices and use their voices in the most healthy, efficient, effective, and dynamic ways possible to create outstanding classes, motivate clients, and protect their instrument (larynx/vocal folds) while doing so

Why is it important?

This research overtly displays the imperative need for vocal training/seminars specific to the fitness professional population and the importance of a focus on vocal health, vocal efficiency, as well as dynamic voice use specific to the role of the fitness instructor.

Perspectives

Conducting this research and writing this article have both been such a wonderful and fulfilling experience for me as I am incredibly passionate about this work. I live in the fitness and medical (voice) worlds myself and am truly powered by this purpose in helping occupational voice users, especially fitness instructors/fitpros. I know and understand (firsthand) the significant vocal demands, lack of vocal training, and desire for role-specific vocal training on voice use and care that this population deserves. This research and article also inspired me to create my company VOXFIT® approximately two years ago.
