What is it about?

The paper details the results of a survey completed by 344 school-based speech/language pathologists (SLPs) with regard to their training in, perceptions of, and use of classroom-based intervention. Both objective and short answer questions were analyzed and the results and their clinical implications are discussed.

Why is it important?

The majority of the SLPs surveyed utilized classroom-based intervention with some of their caseloads and listed many positive elements of this inclusion approach. Yet, many of the same challenging perceptions and roadblocks exist just as they did when SLPs were surveyed about this over 20 years ago. We still have some work to do if these are to be overcome and this approach is to be implemented successfully.

Perspectives

Having worked in the schools for many years, I am appreciative of the SLPs who took the time to complete our survey and am grateful for the insights we gained. I look forward to continued research in this area.
