The Bogenhausen Dysarthria Scales (BoDyS): Validation of a standardized dysarthria assessment.

What is it about?

The BoDyS is a tool for the clinical assessment of dysarthria. It comprises 9 scales on which the major dimensions of dysarthric impairment are rated and provides standard norms based on a sample of 220 dysarthric patients. The article first reports on the reliability of the test. In its major part it provides data proving the validity of the nine BoDyS scales, i.e., that they measure fairly independent aspeccts of dysarthria (discriminant validity), and that the different elicitation methods on which the BoDyS are based measure the same traits (convergent validity).

Why is it important?

This is the first dysarthria assessment tool that is methodologically homogeneous (i.e., it is based on purely auditory analysis techniques and avoids the use of nonspeech tasks) and provides standard norms for individual profile analyses based on test-statistical principles.
