Why is it important?

The Miami University Concussion Management Program is one of the oldest in the US and is lead by the speech-language pathology team. There are important lessons learned for those interested in sports concussions, their effects, and ways to manage its sequalae.

Perspectives

As a clinician who has experience in patients surviving moderate to severe TBI, working with the athletes provides a very different perspective. While recovery is dramatic and typically the athlete recovers fully, sports concussions generate a series of challenges for the athlete, their athletic trainers and the management team in general. Accurate diangosis and follow up systems are key to successful management of the injury and in order to prevent secondary effects.
