What is it about?

The binary and ternary complexes of epinephrine (EP) with β-cyclodextrin (βCD), 18-crown-6 (18C6) and cucurbit[7]uril (CB7) were investigated using experimental techniques and molecular modeling. The results obtained indicated that EP forms stable binary complexes with the three hosts as well as stable ternary complex with βCD and 18C6. The guest and host in these complexes are hold together by noncovalent interactions especially hydrogen bonding.

Why is it important?

The formation of pseudorotaxane complex 18C6-EP-βCD is a novel approach that can lead to development of specific drug carriers and also can play a pivotal role in enantioseparation of drugs.

Writing this article with my PhD. student was an enjoyable experience especially we needed to tackle results from various techniques to corroborate our results. This has been an excellent experience to Suad who is now working for a central research facility.
