What is it about?

Robo4, a known vascular stabilizing molecule, suppresses COX-2 expression in endothelial cells under inflammatory conditions and alleviates inflammatory diseases.

Why is it important?

Inflammatory diseases were thought to be mainly induced by immune cells, but this study shows that Robo4, which is specifically expressed on vascular endothelial cells, suppresses the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases, suggesting that blood vessels may be a potential therapeutic target for inflammatory diseases.

Perspectives

It is expected to lead to the development of new inflammatory disease drugs targeting blood vessels.
