What is it about?

This work demonstrates that meiofauna bioturbation has a stimulating effect on nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria in marine sediments.

Why is it important?

The work suggests that meiofauna has a role in mitigating eutrophication in the marine environment.

Perspectives

It was the first time I coupled biogeochemistry and marine ecology in an experimental study and this resulted in the research article here presented. I think multidisciplinary studies should be promoted in science.
