Discovery and importance of hydrogen peroxide

What is it about?

Possible formation of hydrogen peroxide 3 billion years ago. Synthesis of hydrogen peroxide by L.-J. Thenard 200 years ago. Discovery of hydrogen peroxide in vivo by H. Sies. Its role in signalling.

Why is it important?

As to its physiological role of signalling, hydrogen peroxide is well suited as it is not very reactive.

Perspectives
