What is it about?

The publication demonstrates that Akt activation is regulated by 14-3-3 proteins during inflammation and also shows that Akt hyperactivation induces apoptosis in intestinal epithelial cells.

Why is it important?

The paper shows that autophagy induces degradation of the PDK1 inhibitor and therefore enhances Akt activation. Furthermore we demonstrated that inhibition of Akt reduces apoptosis during colitis.

Perspectives

In this paper we presented clear evidence that Akt signalind and autophagy can establish a feedback loop that is important for controlling several biological processes such as proliferation and apoptosis.
