What is it about?
Many studies have found that Black Americans age faster than white Americans, and previous work suggests this is partially related to higher levels of stress and trauma experienced by Black Americans. We asked whether psychological factors might be one tool to protect against these effects. We find that stronger emotion regulation was protective against the negative consequences of assaultive trauma in Black Americans.
