What is it about?
There has been a lot of research on learning with digital technologies. However, there has not been a lot of dialogue among the various theoretical approaches that examine the topic. This paper brings into dialogue three increasingly influential approaches to the topic: sociomaterial approaches, postphenomenology, and cultural-historical activity theory (CHAT).

Why is it important?
By revealing the existence of three important tensions among the approaches discussed, the dialogue raises fundamental questions about the subject of learning with digital technologies. Such questions concern the distinction between humans and digital technologies, the role of consciousness in learning with digital technologies, and the proper research methodology for the study of the topic.
