What is it about?
Pain Catastrophization refers to the psychological impact effect on the patient caused by the pain afflicting him/her. The Pain Catastrophizing scale is a psychometric tool to measure the extent of catastrophization affecting the patient due to (mainly) chronic pain.

Why is it important?
Management of pain will not totally succeed without solving the psychological effect on the patient.
Perspectives
As a clinician involved in treating oro-facial pain, I am acutely aware that I need to address the psychological effects on the patient. This Sinhala version of the Catastrophization scale would greatly help this aspect because most of my patients are not able to to understand English which is the language of the original version.
