What is it about?

Many college students take introductory psychology, and perhaps no other psychology courses in their academic career. That makes introductory psychology a key place to confront and address the stigma surrounding psychological disorders.

Why is it important?

Stigmatization contributes to greater distress and isolation, above and beyond what might be due to any disorder. Stigmatization of disorders can keep people from seeking help when they need it. Addressing the prevalent and persistent stigma that exists in our society can be a step towards bringing awareness and understanding to the experience of psychological disorders.
