What is it about?
This paper outlines coaches and athletes' strategies which they use to prevent and manage interpersonal conflict. It also examines commonly experienced outcomes of conflict between coaches and athletes related to performance, wellbeing and interpersonal relationships.

Why is it important?
While conflict is often perceived to be disruptive, our findings indicate that conflict can also positively contribute to an individual development of sport participants as well as to an improvement of the coach-athlete relationship if managed constructively. Recommendations for effective conflict management are outlined.
Perspectives
Personally, I believe this paper may help shift perceptions of conflict from being a "liability" to being a "possibility". By outlining practical strategies used by experienced coaches and athletes I hope we can support the development of conflict management skills in younger sport participants, especially empowering athletes to confidently address disagreements with their coaches.
