Why is it important?
A lot of studies about sexual-orientation differences in mental health have focused on young individuals. The knowledge about sexual-orientation differences in mental health among older age groups as compared to younger age groups is limited.
Perspectives
In a population-based sample, this study highlights that the sexual orientation disparity in depression and anxiety exists across ages and is at least partially explained by disparities in social stress across ages. The risk of exposure to discrimination and victimization was consistently elevated among sexual minority individuals across age groups, and the sexual orientation disparity in social isolation increased with age.
