What is it about?

First responders experience uniquely high levels of occupational distress. The present study investigated the effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Resilience Training (MBRT) with rural first responders in West Virginia to enhance personal well-being and professional functioning.

Why is it important?

Mindfulness-Based Resilience Training may be especially beneficial to rural front-line workers and LEOs where barriers to accessing healthcare are numerous due to its brevity and group training format. Our results demonstrate MBRT can lead to clinically-meaningful improvements in resilience and key health outcomes through 6-months post-training.

Perspectives

We are discovering the demand is high for this type of training in multiple workforce sectors beyond just first responders. Thus, we hope readers of our article are able to expand and improve upon our work.
