What is it about?
This paper provides an overview of a theory of cognitive development, rational constructivism. It builds on previous work on core knowledge, learning mechanisms, and conceptual change, and suggests an integrative approach to the study of early cognition and development. This papers presents a theory that is not extreme nativism nor extreme empiricism. This view integrates formal computational models (especially Bayesian models) in understanding learning and development, and it is also of interest to readers who are concerned with issues in philosophy of mind and epistemology.
