What is it about?

Given that knowledge informs assessment, diagnosis, and intervention practices, it is important to understand and evaluate psychologists' evidence-informed knowledge of ADHD to identify strengths and areas for improvement in order to optimize practice. To assess this, a national sampling of 268 psychologists was conducted using a study-created Knowledge of ADHD survey that evaluated multiple domains of evidence-based ADHD-related practice (e.g., knowledge of assessment practices, intervention practices, general information of ADHD, etc.). The study demonstrated that while psychologists do indeed have a significant amount of evidence-informed knowledge to guide practice, many may benefit from additional specialized education to ensure adherence to best practices.

The study suggests that surveyed psychologists generally have significant knowledge of ADHD-related best practices. However, study trends further indicate that the psychologists can benefit from additional educational activities to address knowledge gaps that can create challenges for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of those with ADHD.
