What is it about?

For many years mental health providers have placed numerous un-called-for barriers to prevent a trans person from moving forward with their transition. We explore the ways to not only remove these barriers but how a provider can prioritize the needs of their clients.

Why is it important?

This article explores the use of evidence-based practice in working with trans and gender nonbinary people using affirmative and liberation approaches. Special attention is given to the unique needs of TNB individuals and the need for competent practice.

Perspectives

As a trans person, I decided to become a psychologist because I was tired of the ways that trans people were treated as they sought care. I knew that being part of the solution was the best way to make change.
