What is it about?

We can tell a lot about someone from their behaviour online. We explored how Facebook users' language use (spelling errors) and emoji use (lots of smiley emoji) made any difference to how people rated their personality. We found that people were more likely to rate a person as more extraverted in personality when they used correct spelling on their Facebook posts rather than with typos.

Online communication is a fundamental aspect of 21st century communication, therefore we need to understand how we interact and understand each other through different online platforms. This can help us better understand how we make accurate first impressions of others which may be important for things like online dating and online recruitment.
