Metacognition is a vital skill for developing social interactions. In our study, we examined how individuals assess their ability to recognise others' emotional faces when the emotion expression is subtle (low-intensity) and explicit (high-intensity) within a working memory paradigm.

Limited research has explored how individuals evaluate their memory capabilities (metacognitive ability), especially when it comes to emotional faces. Our study reveals that task performance significantly impacts metacognition, highlighting a tendency for people to underestimate their memory for low-intensity emotional expressions.
