Why is it important?
Conscious incompetence is needed to be able to set development goals or learning goals in relation to the professional's complex new social behavior.
Perspectives
This is the first study on conscious incompetence in a context of talking about the development of complex new social behavior between managers and professionals. In previous studies we have shown managers and professionals, using feedback and coaching, failed in setting goals based on conscious incompetence. The new method, EMI, focusses on how memory and thinking work, to help a professional become consciously incomptent.
