What is it about?

Teachers taught either the same or two different groups of students at two time points. Across 15 of 16 teacher- and student-rated scales, teaching quality was more similar in the same-group condition than in the different-group condition. Effects were larger for student ratings than for teacher ratings. Teaching quality was rated more highly in student groups with on average higher socioeconomic status. We conclude: Students affect (some) ratings of teaching quality. # Quasi Experiment # Causal Inference

Why is it important?

Our findings imply: It is dangerous to use teaching quality ratings to assess the quality of a teacher - as the results depend on the taught students.
