Why is it important?
The findings suggest that absolute standing feedback matters more to people than relative standing feedback. Thus, performance evaluators (e.g., teachers, coaches, supervisors) should inform people of their objective performance against absolute evaluation criteria, especially when people are in a high- or low-achieving group, to help people develop a more objective self-evaluation of ability and to better motivate future performance.
