What is it about?

We performed human-coded and Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count detected valence and thematic-content analyses, of all English-language song lyrics available in a public repository from 2018, including “mother” or synonym in both album title and song lyrics themselves. Per hypothesis, most songs were positively valenced: most common human-coded theme was “mother as exemplary/beloved.” Themes were explicable via evolutionary analysis, with superordinate themes of apparent evolutionary significance.
