What is it about?

Observing difference and similarity are ways of explaining intricate phenomena. The study of mismatches between verbal and nonverbal signs has revealed significant findings in semiotic gesture studies, in conflict talk. Expanding this and adopting these findings to the field of therapy has enabled the explanation of therapeutic interventions.

Why is it important?

The concept of mismatches is understudied. It has significance to a myriad of fields: semiotic/gesture studies, robotics, conflict studies/politics, literature, dance movement therapy, developmental psychology. Additional research of the ways it exists may help us form a concise framework for a holistic theory of human conduct that involves mismatching.

Perspectives

Mismatches between verbal and nonverbal signs are a salient mark in the text. They point to a place that nay enable change. Change is always something humans are eager to do but are also reluctant. Using mismatches as a tool may enhance change processes, either in personal sphere or in organization ones.
